This Amelanchier grows columnar. It is slow-growing and usually does not grow taller than 4 feet. The leaves are from broadly ovate to nearly round, dark green in summer. The autumn color is rather yellow with a little red. The small flowers (2 cm in size) appear around mid-April, after which the typical currants appear. These edible fruits are purple-black. Tree for places where space is limited. Amelanchier grows well in most soils, but prefers slightly calcareous soil.
