This cultivated variety of Catalpa bignonioides forms a small to medium-sized tree with a rounded crown, growing up to 8 metres wide. The large, heart-shaped leaves appear early in spring, and are first golden yellow, later in summer yellow-green. The autumn colour is yellow. Flowers in June-July with up to 25 cm long flower clusters. The white bell-shaped flowers have yellow stripes and purple spots. The fruits are very long and thin, hanging, remaining on the tree in winter. Grows preferably in full sun, on permeable but not too dry soils.
