Medium-sized, upright growing shrub with oval, dull green leaves, 5-12 cm long. When emerging, the young leaves are attractive dark brown, the autumn color is yellow. Blooms in summer (July-August) with small lilac-pink flowers, followed in autumn (from September) by violet-colored 4 mm berries. These berries remain on the plant for a long time after the leaves fall. Young specimens also bear an abundance of fruit. Prefers a well-drained soil, slightly acidic or neutral.
