Well-known tree with a beautiful broad-round crown and elongated dark green serrated leaves, up to 20 cm long. Greenish-white, fragrant male flowers in catkins, June-July, 8-13 cm long. Often planted for its edible fruits. Prefers airy, fertile soil, not suitable for wet soils.
