Very low, ground covering plant up to 20 cm high, spreading by root suckers. May die back above ground during winter. Whorls of oval leaves, 2-4 cm long. White flowers in late spring and early summer, later red berries. Very beautiful but requires a cool place in semi-shade, on acidic, moist soil.
