Tall and wide shrub. Very good as a solitary plant because of its almost horizontal branching that gives the plant a characteristic habit. Dark green, large leaves that are grey-green on the underside, 7-13 cm. Keeps its leaves for a very long time in the autumn and then changes colour to a very beautiful purple-red to orange-red. Yellow-green flowers in May, before the leaf development, very decorative. The plant bears egg-shaped, scarlet-red fruits in August-September. Requires slightly acidic, nutritious soil that does not dry out.
