Tall and wide shrub. Very good as a solitary because of its almost horizontal branching which gives the plant a characteristic habit. The young leaves are light purple but later become dark green, with grey-green underside. The autumn colour is a very beautiful purple-red to orange-red. Pink-red flowers in May-June, very decorative. The plant bears egg-shaped, scarlet-red fruits in August-September. Requires slightly acidic, nutritious soil that does not dry out.
