Tall and broad-upright shrub. Dark green leaves with blue-green underside, 5-9 cm. Beautiful fall color, in scarlet and yellow tones. Creamy white to bright white flowers in May-June after leaf emergence, 3-5 cm long. Afterwards pink-red fruits, 2 cm in size, resembling a large raspberry or strawberry. These fruits have a somewhat bitter, mealy taste and are especially popular with birds who consider the fruits as a delicacy. The fruits are also used to make wine or jam. In a sheltered, sunny position, this species produces abundant fruits. Grows in sunny to semi-shaded places. Can be used as a tree shrub. Is recommended for the flowers, the fruits and the beautiful autumn colour.
