Strong, evergreen shrub with upright growth habit. Large, sturdy leaves, dark green to metallic sea green in colour, silvery white on the underside. Small, creamy white, bell-shaped, fragrant flowers in October-November. From March-April (-June) the plant bears orange-red, edible berries, sour-sweet/tart in taste, suitable for jam. Beautiful plant that also does well on the coast, and is resistant to air pollution. Can be used well as a hedge plant or higher bed planting. Requires a slightly sheltered location as a young plant. Prefers to grow on dry to normal soils, for sun and partial shade.
