Red beech is like green beech, but with brown-red leaves and slower growth. During the winter, green and red beech are indistinguishable. Is mainly used as a hedge plant, but is also a beautiful forest and park tree. Due to its strong root system, it is well resistant to strong winds. The dark red, shiny leaf grows to 4-10 cm in size. When sprouting, the young leaf is slightly hairy. The autumn colour is yellow-brown. Beech retains its dead, rust-coloured leaves during the winter until spring. Prefers to grow in the sun, but also tolerates light shade. However, the trunk of a beech tree does not tolerate direct sunlight. Does not grow on wet soils or soils with a fluctuating groundwater level. Is best planted on a well-drained, humus-rich soil. Not to be confused with the hornbeam, Carpinus betulus.

For planting a hedge, plant 4 hedge plants per meter, and 3 feathers per meter. 'Hedge plants' and 'feathers' can both be used for hedge planting. 'Hedge plants' are young seedlings that were planted close together in the nursery. They have not yet been pruned and are less branched, with lighter stems than the 'Feathers'. 'Feathers' were dug up as 'hedge plants' and planted at a greater distance. They are grown on a bamboo stick, so have straight stems and have been pruned several times. As a result, they are more branched and give a mature appearance more quickly. Beeches can be planted from mid-November, when the plants are completely dormant, throughout the winter, until spring before the leaves emerge, so best before mid-April.

There are many qualities and associated (low) prices when it comes to plants. We only supply A-quality and guarantee strict sorting of our plants. So: uniform batches, good length-thickness ratio, nice root system with abundant root hairs, with branches to the bottom of the plant.
Watch out for cheaper plants, these were usually poorly sorted. Plants are then supplied that are bare at the bottom. A beech will never get a branch in such a bare place and your hedge will therefore never grow dense.

PLEASE NOTE
Young hedge plants (HAAGPLANT) can only be ordered in multiples of 10. Please take this into account when ordering. If you order a different quantity, we will reduce or increase it to the nearest 10-fold. The other sizes (VEER) can be ordered individually.
