Tree with compound leaves that turn yellow in autumn. The young twigs turn orange to reddish. The upright flowers are pale yellow, July to August. Beautiful, typical bloated fruits in the shape of a lantern, changing from green to red. The ornamental value of the fruits is equal to that of the flowers.

The growth habit of the tree is somewhat loose and erratic at first, but when it matures the crown is compact and round.
Makes few demands, tolerates drought well.
