Shrub or tree with a typical, irregular growth habit. The glossy leaves are dark when they emerge and green during the summer. During the autumn, Parrotia has a beautiful autumnal colour in yellow, red and purple shades. In older trees, the trunk flakes off, which can be very decorative. Grows well in both sun and shade and requires a light, acidic, sufficiently moist soil. Very beautiful as a multi-stem due to the irregular trunks, but is also a beautiful tree with a wide, layered crown in the long term.
