Large tree with a broad crown, thick branches and twigs. Ovate leaves usually up to 30 cm long and wide. The leaves on the strongly growing shoots can grow up to 50 cm long. The soft-haired flower buds are overwintering, which is why they freeze regularly. Purple, fragrant flowers of 5-6 cm long with yellow stripes, in large flower panicles that can grow 25-40 cm long, April-May just before the leaf development. Prefers to grow on soil that is not too wet.
